Is my husband entitled to ownership of my mother's house if we divorce?
My mother is sick and a year before I got married I remodeled her house and created a mother daughter house. My husband and I moved in to one part and my mother lives in the other part. The deed of the house is still in my mother's name but the loan is in my name and her name. My husband and I have done all the up keep and paid all the bills equally. Although my husband did not give me any lump sum of money when I renovated the house would he be entitled to any sort of ownership of the home. In other words would I have to give him money to reimburse him for his half of the bills he paid while living in the house if we get divorced?
Can I change my house settlement agreement after my divorce?
My husband of 43 years divorced me to be with another woman. There were no minor children involved and we have an agreement that our house will go up for sale in June 2011. I am making plans to buy his half out but when I made that agreement I was in extreme distress because of the situation. Is there any recourse I can take now either on him or HER to use as leverage to get him to agree on my house settlement amount?
Should I include my wife's Virginia property in our divorce settlement?
My wife and I are divorcing and she owns property in Virginia that was given to her while we were married. Should I include the property in the settlement of our assets?
Am I responsible for my ex's debt after his death?
We were stupid and used only 1 attorney to file for divorce. I agreed to be responsible for half the debt on a bank loan that only he, not I, signed as guarantor. He'd lied to me and told me I had signed the loan but in reality I never did. What I found later is that what I did sign was only paperwork to give me access to account for withdrawals and such. I verified with this with the bank that I am not obligated to them only to my ex. according to the divorce decree. Well, my ex just died. Am I still responsible to pay his children? I was so upset that he'd lied to me but I was stupid and ignorant to not realize it.
Can I sell household items and a car during divorce without being arrested?
My wife's mother has bought things for our home such as furniture and other household items. We also have a car which is currently registered at the Department of Motor Vehicles as 'my name' OR 'her name'. We are now getting divorced because she was charged with two felony counts of child abuse. I have full custody of the kids and she is not allowed contact with them. I need to sell some things to pay for all the added court expense, childcare, etc, due to the child abuse. My wife and her mother are screaming that they will have me arrested if I sell any of the things that she (the mother) bought or the car. Is she correct? Can I be arrested if I sell any of these things?
