I was laid off recently and I believe because of a medical condition. They the probably felt I could not handle the responsibilities. I have severe arthritis and have to walk on hard cement. I limp when I walk.

My business is a bookkeeping, accounting, tax service; my staff totals six (6) people; myself, four (4) full time and one (1) part-time. My question is with regards to the FMLA federal law. Since I have a small business, will my company be exempt from the Family and Medical Leave of Absence law (including Disability Leave of Absence and Military Leave of Absence)?

I have a question regarding FMLA that I would appreciate your help with. Over the Christmas holidays, one of our employee's brother tragically passed away leaving a six year old child without a parent. The employee is now taking care of the little boy and is seeking legal assistance with his brother's estate but wanted to know if he would be eligible under FMLA to take time off when he has to meet with lawyers regarding establishing guardianship or temporary custody of the child. I gave him a summary of FMLA rights under the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 from the government web site, but was unsure weather the reason stated for taking leave would qualify this individual under these circumstances. Could you give me your advice?

I drive a truck. I fell in the truck while making a delivery on Dec. 4. My shoulder started hurting over the weekend. 30 minutes after I arrived at work Mon. Dec 7 I reported the incident and was sent to the doctor. I went back to work the next day. I was not paid anything for Dec 7. I was told it was covered by workers compensation. I know that is not right, but I was not allowed to work until I went to the doctor. Do they owe me for the time I spent at the doctor that day?
