What can I do to get paid as a subcontractor in Georgia?
I am a sub-contractor working in GEORGIA. I did work for a inc. who had a contract to do work for a company representing hud. I completed the work. I have paper work and photos to prove it was done. I invoiced them for work completed 90 days ago. They will not pay and now will not return my calls. What can I do to be paid for work completed for this inc? They said at one time they had not been paid yet and I would have to wait. But that was at 45 days. I am at 90 now with no response from them. Can you help with info? Thank you.
Can we release escrowed funds tied to an invalid lien from an unlicensed contractor?
A contractor who is not licensed, filed a lien on property we (a trust) received back after we had sold the property on a land contract. The property was sold again, but the title co. to get the lien off put money in escrow. Now the money is tied up and this contractor who was hired by the owner of the land contract wants money. Is there an easy way to release this money being held, since the original lien was not valid? Do we have to file a lawsuit in order to release this money? I think this contractor is very shady. He is not licensed in Michigan, plus he says he wants to meet with us to talk, tells us we owe him $10,000 but fails to give us an invoice (the former owner says he was paid for the work he did) but continues to have secret meetings with this contractor. It appears they may be trying to work against us. I feel there must be a way to get this settled quickly. Please Advise.

What are our legal rights if a contractor quits without notice?
A contractor we hired to do some painting and home repair just quit working on our home without notice. There are things that are not finished or that we are unhappy with, but he has sent us a bill. What are our legal rights?
Can a contractor file a lien if we overpaid and he won't sign a waiver?
We hired a contractor to do work for our business. We secured an SBA loan and received a quote from him as required by the bank. We had known him previously, and no contract was signed. We have paid him 50% more than his original quote and the project has taken four months longer than promised. His last bill we refused to pay as we did not see that he had done any work justifying the amount and was 25% of the original cost for the project. As I said we had already paid 50% above the original quote. He then went on vacation and we had to meet with the various inspectors to get passed as he was not around. He has not contacted us since he left for vacation which was 4 weeks ago. I now need an unconditional waiver signed for the property company and can not get a response from him. Can he put a lien against us? We have overpaid on his original quote and he has doubled the original end time that was promised on the job so I would hope not. What are my options? I don't want to sue him, I just want this waiver signed so I can move on with my business.
