Do home buyers have protection against mechanics liens in Minnesota?
My husband and I built a home in Minn last year. closed on our house May 7 2010. after we moved in we received 3 mechanics lien notices - these are all filed with the county we live in. We paid for our home - the builder walked away with around 7K of our money plus he did not pay the subs. as home buyers do we have any protection? and can we get these liens removed? I appreciate your help! One other point - our builder went out of business and skipped town.

What should I do if I wasn't paid for work before a home sale?
I am a contractor and did work on a property in Maine prior to the sale of the home for which I have not been paid. Closing took place on 12/20/2010. It is my understanding that this was not disclosed at closing, otherwise payment for my services would have been issued at that time either by the seller or the title company. My question is what should I do next and is there a time limit for me to take action?
