Is the contractor's lien illegal due to overpayment claims?
A contractor has placed a lien on the house we are building. The amount is to large, because the have cashed a check since the lien was filed. We want to resolve the matter but they want return our calls. The installed siding.windows and doors. The payment were made on the windows (in full) but they are not finished. The siding is finished and they were paid in full. The doors were installed wrong and we ask them to make the needed repairs. They refuse to repair without the payment made. If we can't get them to make the needed repairs before payment we know they won't come back afterwards. Is this lien illegal because they liened for more than they are owed?

What are the risks of building a home as a private party?
I am going to be building a home for my family and will be the owner/builder. We have an alternate funding source and will not be getting a bank loan for the construction. The contractors we have selected are all recommended by friends who have had direct experience with them, and they have excellent reputations. A local builder who is advising us has suggested that I should not build this home as a private party, but under an LLC. What are the risks if I do this as a private party?
Can a non-profit classify bartenders as subcontractors instead of employees?
I work for a non-profit organization as a bartender. To save money, they are asking us if we would consider being subcontractors instead of employees;is this a legal move and what is the definition of subcontractor? I was informed at one time that you can not be considered a subcontractor if they tell you what time to come to work and leave or supply you with equipment to perform work needed? Also as a subcontractor would we be covered under their bond for serving liquor?
