Can a street become private without legal closure in North Carolina?
I purchased commercial property on a right-of way. It is on a map of the tract dated in 1924. There is an easement that is open to a major road and that easement has existed since 1935. The easement has been maintained by the State of North Carolina since 1935. The property changed hands by the sale of a company in 1982 and the property was sold to the city. The city sold the property to a church. Six months later the church blocked the easement. According to record, in 1989 the city did not accept the street with three owners, seven business locations to maintain and stated that the complete street became a private street. There was no 160A-299 form used. The county register of deeds has no record of the street becoming private. My deed implies that the street and road were shown on the plat. Can this be a private road without closing the street legally?
Does my wife have rights to property deeded to me before our marriage?
Prior to my father's death in 1981 he deeded in my name, a house and some land, giving my mother a living will at the same time. My mother died a few months ago and I am planning to sell both the house and the land, but my wife said she should have some imput in the matter even though she isn't on the deed and my dad gave this to me and not her. We were married in 1978 prior to my dad's deed. Does she have any legal right to the house and land other that be part of our decision?

Can a lien be filed after 17 months for work on a single-family dwelling?
New York State Law: Article 2 Mechanic's Lien If Section 10 states that filing of notice of lien where improvement was made on a single family dwelling, be filed within four months after the completion of the contract...... Why is a contractor and his attorney sending me notice of filing a lien if the work (inadequate work) was done about 17 months ago (in Nov. 2005)? Hasn't the time expired?
