Is a formal divorce needed if a Caribbean marriage isn't filed in the US?
If a U.S. couple marries in the Carribean, doesn't file the necessary paperwork after returning to the U.S., and then decides to terminate the union, is a formal divorce required or any other legal paperwork in the US to terminate the union or can the couple simply part ways with no paperwork required?
Is my marriage valid if the license was never returned?
In 2007 we applied a Marriage License in S.F. Ca. Then we performed marriage in front of a Salvation Amy Captain with a witness. Later on we had a ceremony with family and friends. But some reason we never living together and never have sex, also the Marriage licenses never been return to the county clerk for record. Now the question is this a legal marriage/are we still single or married/are we free to marry to another person?
Do I need a divorce in Peru before marrying again in the US?
Nearly ten years ago I married my Peruvian girlfriend in Peru. Her application for her immigrant visa was denied and she was never able to move to the United States to live with me. After a year and a half we went our separate ways. The marriage was never legalized in the United States. I could not claim her as my wife here. Now, I would like to marry my current girlfriend. Is it necessary to seek a divorce in Peru before doing that? We have been apart for 10 years and have never lived together as man and wife.
