What is the statute of limitation for collection of student loans?
Is their a limitation on a 1989 collection on a student loan that has never shown up on my credit report? It must be a private one, and the department of education does not have it on file. Can it be in collection if the school is closed?
How can I arrange to payoff credit cards without all the interest that has piled up?
I was laid off my job in 2002 after 9-11, and since that time I have worked as a volunteer for my church. I am paid donations from week to week. I accumulated almost $23,000 in credit card debt over a 3 year period and after unemployment insurance ran out, I did not have funds to keep up expenses. I want to pay off these debts, however, 80% of them have individually offered "payoff balances" anywhere from 40-80% of the entire amount I owe. I want to pay them off as soon as I can, but I don't want to pay them off at face value. How can I arrange to get payoff balances so they will still be good when I have cash in hand?
What can I do if a creditor is consistantly posting my payments late which reflects on my credit?
I need your help in getting a 30 day late mark off my credit report. I have a department store credit card, which I pay off every other month. They say that my first payment was due on the 8th of the month and I paid it on the 17th. Then they say that I didn't make a payment at all. I don't know what's going on but I pay all of my bills on time. I don't know if they are not processing the payments until later or if they are arriving late through the mail. I have paid the Target card off regularly and they refuse to take these bad marks off my credit report. My credit report is extremely important to me. What can I do?
What can I do if a creditor tricked me into not appearing for court in order to get a judgement?
A law firm on behalf of a client contacted me about an outstanding balance (due in 2002). I attempted to satisfy debt with negotiation of said debt. They wrote a letter to me stating that I had 15 days to propose to them a payment plan. Fifteen days would end May 28, some 6 days after the scheduled court date of May 22. The law firm stated to me that there was no need to appear because we were in negotiations. We later reached a verbal settlement to pay 50% of the debt with payments of $100.00 per month. Several attempts were made to give them payment during the following weeks. They stated that the details where payment was to be sent were not yet available. They then began garnishment of my wages. I feel I was wrongly misled by them stringing me along until the new Chapter 7 bankruptcy laws went into effect, and they wrongfully negotiated inflated amounts due. I have all documentation from them and staff at the firm. Should I pursue legal action against them?
