My daughter turned 18 in December and has married a man who has no job, lives in the same house with his father and mother and half brother and wife with one child. The father-in-law of my daughter says he going to claim my daughter as a dependent on the tax form.Can he legally do this?

It is possible if the following factors are met and she is not being claimed as a dependent by anyone else:
1. must live with you all year as a member of your household2 (and your relationship must not violate local law).
2. The person's gross income for the year must be less than $3,650.
3. You must provide more than half of the person's total support for the year.4
