Termination of Duty: What It Means for Service Members
Definition & Meaning
The term "termination of duty" refers to the end of a service member's obligation to perform military duties. This can occur in two primary scenarios:
- For active duty or active duty for training lasting at least 31 days, it means the discharge, release, or separation from that duty.
- For other types of duty, it indicates the release from any military obligation, which may result from various factors such as resignation, retirement, or other voluntary actions that end the duty commitment.
