Can I deduct repair costs for my rental duplex?
The duplex that I have owned since 1991 and have been repairing termite damage (for
approx 2 1/2years) and abating lead base paint. I declared only 1/2 of deduction expenses because I had many tool and personal items in one half. And rented the other half. It has been minimal 1- month and 3months respectively each year because I require non-smoking it is
difficult to rent. IRS now says I am not entitled to any deductions/interest/depreciation/nothing. They say I have to capitalize everything. I did captilaize $11,000 in actual improvement such as new windows, eaves, and etc. However they say I am not eligible for the $20,000 repairs because it took to long. Repairs did not raise the value of the unit. The duplex has
up to date permits. I reside with a friend at a different location and do not own this house.

A Spanish company hires me in the USA (I am a USA citizen) and tells me that all taxes etc are my responsibility. I file 2007 taxes as independent contractor. They control all facets of my work and want me only working for them. In 2007 they also incorporate in the States and reneged on promise that I would become full time employee in 2008 of USA Inc company. They maintain me in 2008 as before under salary directly paid to bank account from Spain. Can their USA Corp. claim I never worked for them in order to circumvent tax laws and issues. USA Inc. on acts for receivables and invoices. 1. Can Spain company hire USA employee and knowing violate tenants of independent contractor status. Are they responsible to withhold. 2. Now Inc in USA ; can Spain company still claim I only work for Spain and not USA company. 3. Although I am full time employee of Spain they treated me on their books as vendor also skirting their Spain tax issues.

Can a nonprofit and for-profit coexist under the same Board?
Can a nonprofit and a for profit, owned and run by the same Board, legally exist if the nonprofit will train ex-offenders job/life skills, and the profit becomes their 'employer' as contract personnel(1099)? It will be sales positions. By the way, the nonprofit which currently exists is a faith-based 501c3. The for profit has not been recreated yet. If it is legally sound, what is the IRS business designation for the for profit?
