Full question:
I am a vendor for a company in Braintree, Massachusetts. When I check in for work to get a vendor badge, they make me give them my Massachusetts Drivers License. I feel very uncomfortable leaving this with them for 8 to 10 hours at a time and I feel I should have my license on me at all times. Is there a law that they cannot take your drivers license. Is this property of mine? I made a copy of my license and they did not accept that.

Answer:
While it's not uncommon for companies to request identification from vendors to ensure the return of their property, you have a right to keep your driver's license with you. Your license is your personal property, and generally, you should not be required to leave it with an employer for extended periods. If they do not accept a copy, you might consider discussing your concerns with them or seeking clarification on their policy. This content is for informational purposes only and is not legal advice.
