Full question:

I can't locate the owner of my rental condo. The air-conditioner broke down. It's hot in the condo, and I can't get in touch with him. I won't pay the rent until I reach him. What should I do? I first entered into a lease with The Property Management, which were rental units that changed to condos. When my unit was sold. I was given a person's name, tele#, and address. Well the phone does not work and no one can be reached at the address given to me. I spoke the the manager of the The Property Management and she told me it's the Property Management's problem. Can you advise me?

FAQs

If your air conditioning stops working, first notify your landlord or property management in writing. Document the date and time of your report. If they do not respond promptly, check your lease for specific maintenance obligations. In many states, landlords are required to provide a habitable living environment, which includes functioning air conditioning during hot weather. If the issue is not resolved, you may have legal options, such as withholding rent or seeking repairs yourself, but consult a legal professional before taking action.
