What can I do to end my legal dispute over my brother-in-law's theft?

Full question:

When reporting my brother-in-law for stealing his 80 year old mother's house I called him a thief and he saw this private email. I've spent $3000 in attorney fees and my lawyer says settle (no way, he is a thief) for around $15K. Three times this case has been dismissed for lack of jurisdiction (he's in S.C. and I'm in O.R.) as well as the way it was filed in conjunction with the price of the house. His attorney has a rep for dragging cases out. Is there anything I can do to end this now? It's gone on for almost 18 months.

Answer:

To resolve your situation, you have a few options: settlement, dismissal, or judgment. If your brother-in-law continues to pursue the case, you will incur more attorney fees. Settling might be necessary, even if you feel he's in the wrong. Unfortunately, without more details, there aren’t many alternatives to speed up the process.
