Can I serve divorce papers by publishing it in the newspaper?

Full question:

I have been trying to serve my husband with divorce papers since December. He won't tell me where he lives or works. He is still using our old mail address for all correspondence. How can I serve him and get on with my life? At present he is stalking me, showing up in the middle of the night pounding on my door. Someone mentioned I could post an ad for three consecutive weeks and this would count as him being served. Please tell me what I can do in order to start the clock ticking toward the granting of the divorce.

FAQs

If a spouse avoids being served divorce papers, the filing spouse may seek alternative methods of service. This can include serving by publication, where a notice is placed in a local newspaper for a specified period. The court may also allow other methods, like certified mail or using a process server. It's essential to follow your state's rules for service to ensure the divorce proceedings can move forward.
