Full question:

I received a check out of no where in my mail box addressed to me and with my name on it for the amount of $1020.00 from a company I never have done any business with but recently have been praying for a miracle because I'm so financially broke. Anyhow I thought that my prayers had been answered, I opened an account at Bank of America and deposited it and withdrew $200 which I spent on a bus ticket to get to another state for a job opportunity. Now the check is I think you call bounced and I'm now in the hole $222 some odd dollars. I was not participating in any kind of scam and feel like I have been scammed. What can I do? I'm not a thief. I never requested this check from the company I just believed that a miracle happened now I have a $220 debt. I feel victimized. What can I do?

Answer:

This sounds like some kind of scam since you received a check from someone made out to you out of the blue that you do not know.

You need to report this to the authorities and also you will have to pay the bank back.

FAQs

When you deposit a bounced check, you are typically responsible for repaying the bank for any funds you withdrew. This can lead to fees and a negative impact on your credit score. Additionally, if the check was part of a scam, you may want to report it to local authorities and the Federal Trade Commission.
