Full question:
I am an 18 year old high school student. I am living with my parents in the state of Ohio. I don’t have a good relationship with my parents. Last year due to some health issues I had to leave school. This year, once my health became better I joined my high school back. I know I have completed the age of majority, but I still want to get financial support from my parents until I complete my schooling and get a job. Do I have a right to ask financial support from my parents past the age of majority?

Answer:
In Ohio, it is the duty of parents to support the child beyond the age of majority, if the child is continuously attending a full-time recognized and accredited high school.ORC Ann. § 3103.031 reads:
“The parental duty of support to the child shall continue beyond the age of majority as long as the child continuously attends on a full-time basis any recognized and accredited high school. That duty of support shall continue during seasonal vacation periods.”
A child who has attained the age of majority (18 years) may ask for support from parents, only if the child is attending a recognized and accredited high school on a full time basis, even after attaining the age of majority.
