Can I get a legal separation in Mn but still live in the same house? We have children and wish to continue raising them together, in the same home, 50/50 care with no child support. Additionally does the legal separation allow us to file single on taxes?

You can separate physically but that could have consequences when you divorce or get a legal separation. You can file for a legal separation in Minnesota but all of the matters decided in a divorce are also decided in a legal separation such as custody, child support, property division, etc.

However, you do not have to be physically separated to file for a legal separation.
