Full question:
We gave verbal notice to the landlord 3/20/11. We were originally on a lease, but after 2 yrs., we became month to month. She acknowledged the notice in a letter and listed all the cleaning she expects us to responsible for...Washing windows, cleaning Venetian blinds, scrubbing walls and cupboards, cleaning oven and interior under burners, fridge, shower. The stove is old and not working right from the start...says she will charge $25/hr for cleaning (cleaners get $10-15/hr here). Do we owe rent through 4/19 or 4/30, and can we the list of demands be shortened?

Answer:
We cannot give legal advice, and are not forming an attorney-client relationship with you. The following is not a substitute for the advice of a local attorney. But we hope the information will be useful.
You are in a difficult position if the Landlord is holding your security deposit. She will deduct whatever she sees fit out of this. If she is not holding a security deposit, then she basically has no leverage over you. If she is holding hundreds of dollars of your money (security deposit) you should do the cleaning, in hopes she'll withhold as little of your money as possible. You are probably on the hook for rent until 4/30, but that is up to her. If you ask very nicely, you never can tell how people might be convinced to meet you half way. You don't really have a lot of other options here. The amounts of money we are talking about are so small that it would not be worth it to hire a lawyer to represent you. Good luck.
