I am currently living in Europe and would like to change my name.

Full question:

I am currently living in Europe and won't be in the United States until at least December.. maybe. I would like to change my middle name. I have all the forms required for this process, but I wanted to know if it were possible to do this from abroad - by proxy somehow. My guess is that no, it's not likely, but I'm just seeing what my options are. Let me know, thanks.

Answer:

We know of nothing requiring a personal appearance in order to complete a name change. If you feel your forms are adequate, just mail them in. You may also want to call the government department you are mailing to and discuss.

We do name changes at USLegal, including completion services. If you would like to browse our forms packages, or contact our name change department, please see this link:

FAQs

In many cases, you can change your name without appearing in court. If you have the required forms completed, you may be able to submit them by mail to the appropriate government office. However, some states may require a court appearance for certain name changes, so it's important to check your state’s specific requirements.
