How can I ensure that a company is reputable and not a scam?

Full question:

I am considering investing $3500 for a three-day training to become a 'government supply specialist', someone who finds companies to fulfill procurement needs by the federal government. I then supposedly include a profit margin of 5-20%. the company is named 'B2G Institute', out of orlando, fla, and thy've been in business since 1/07. does this sound legitimate, or likely a scam?

I suggest asking for references from former students and/or employers that have hired from the business. Ask specific questions, such as whether they have placement services, how many/what percent of students have gotten a government supply specialist position after the course. Read the contract terms carefully and ask for an explanation of anything you don't fully understand.
