Can the trustee board amend bylaws without a president's signature?
Our pastor has resigned. He also was the president and CEO of our california non-profit corporation for our church. Can the trustee board make amendments to it's bylaws without the signature of a CEO or President? Can the chairman of the trustee board sign the amendments. Is it legal for the chairman of the trustee board to be voted in as vice-president of the corporation and still serve as chairman of the board?
Should I start a nonprofit or LLC for my business idea?
I want to start a business that will sell goods and products obtained from a Christian orphanage and surrounding villages in Africa. The products will be mostly sold in the US. I want to donate approximately 25% of the profits back to the orphanage. I would keep the remaining 75% for my own livelihood and to sustain the company. The business will be operated from my home and via the internet. Would this qualify for a nonprofit business or should I set up a LLC? I do want to make a profit but plan to donate a generous portion back to the orphanage. I am hoping to expand this concept working with other philanthropic ministries as well. Please advise on how to set up this business. Also, can you recommend a business forms package in conjunction with your advice?
How can someone access financial records of a California foundation?
This concerms financial reporting requirements for an Established Foundation that is registered in California and would be set up, say for example, suicide prevention whereby the foundations, for example, takes in $30,000 in donations during the first year of activity. My question is, 'How does an individual gain access to CA State and/or Federal documents required for accounts filings related to how the the foundation utilized the $30,000 donation money, its distribution, its accountability and how it was reported? In other words I want to determine if the $30,000 donation money was used properly for its intended purpose according to the this type of registered foundation laws, or if there were misappropriation of these funds?
Can we use one 501(c)(3) for multiple humanitarian efforts?
We are forming a 501(c) to raise money to purchase food for the hungry...because there is not enough help here. We are calling ourselves 'The Food Cellar'. We will be working with also raising monies and grant seeking to buy mosquito nets for children in Africa to sleep under so they do not get bitten by malaria ridden mosquitoes, and also to dig water wells for people in Africa. Can we use ONE 501(c) 3 and call it' Life Nets aka The Food Cellar...so we can use ONE 501(C)3 and work for raising funds for BOTH together or individually 'Life Nets' and/or 'The Food Cellar', these (and perhaps other) humanitarian needs? We also thought of dba, but thought aka would be best for our needs. Thank you for your help.
