Full question:
I refinanced my home in 2003. Earlier this year I received a refund check. I misplaced the check and found after it was void. I called the escrow company to turn in check and was told would receive a replacement check. Two weeks have passed and I am getting the run around. Need to know what I have to do.

Answer:
Generally, a check is not considered full payment until it is cashed by the bank. When you receive a check, it is a conditional payment that relies on the check being honored. Therefore, you are still entitled to the money, regardless of the lost check.
To resolve the issue with the escrow company, consider visiting a local branch in person. This may expedite the process of receiving your replacement check. If that doesn't work, you have the option to file a lawsuit in small claims court, although that could be costly.
