Can I have my boyfriend of 9 months move in with me and still receive rehabilitative alimony?

Full question:

I am currently receiving rehabilitative alimony until 1/1/2011. I have been divorced for 2 years and my ex husband makes a considerable yearly amount more than I do. We were married 13 years with 3 children and I do not receive child support because we both have joint custody. Can I have my boyfriend of 9 months move in with me and still receive rehabilitative alimony? He will be sharing expenses. Though there are no plans of getting married anytime soon, can I get engaged without fear of having my alimony taken away? I am not sure I want to get married to this man as of right now so I would rather test the water before taking the plunge and making a big mistake again. That way if it doesn't work then I wont be financially strapped and still receive alimony. I just need a yes or no answer. I have asked attorneys before but never get a clear answer.

Answer:

Some states will terminate alimony if you are cohabiting or remarried. Other states may assume that you need less alimony if you cohabit.d If you don't feel your alimony should be reduced under these circumstances, the burden of proof will be on you to show that your economic situation has not changed.
