Full question:
I am curious as to what the legal age is that a minor can be left alone while a parent is working in Maryland? The child just turned 11 on March 26th and is being medicated for ADHD. I am concerned that my ex-sister-in-law may start leaving him to fend for himself rather than take the child to his grandmother on my side of the family (who is willing to watch him and has been doing so) on days that he does not have school ...he currently is in after school day care..but day care is closed on holidays(she is doing this out of spite...messy divorce).... Don't care what their issues are but am worried sick about this little boy being caught in the middle.

Answer:
In Maryland, a person responsible for a child under eight years old cannot leave the child locked or confined in a dwelling, building, enclosure, or vehicle while they are absent. If the person must be away, they must provide a reliable person who is at least thirteen years old to stay with the child. Violating this law can result in a misdemeanor charge, with penalties including a fine of up to $500 or imprisonment for up to thirty days, or both (Md. Code Ann. § 5-801).
