Is there a legal sign and pavement marking that indicates whether or not it is handicapp parking?

Full question:

I received a Handicapp Ticket for parking in a Handicapp Spot on private property at the apartments I live at. The apartments did not complain nor did they authorize the officer to write the ticket. The ticket was left on my vehicle. The spot where I was parked was not marked with any yellow paint indicated it was handicapp nor was there a blue and white sign with a handicapp wheelchair picture posted. The only sign posted was a sign that was hand made by the apartments and was painted in burgundy and creme and had a wheelchair on it and only said Reserved. Is there a legal sign and pavement marking that indicates whether or not it is handicapp parking?

Answer:

Most laws require a sign to be clearly visible. I suggest contacting your state's Division of Motor Vehicles for the regulations governing precise sign requirements in your state.

FAQs

Yes, handicap parking can be enforced on private property, but it depends on local laws and the property owner's policies. If the property has designated handicap spots that meet state requirements, they can issue tickets for unauthorized use. However, enforcement may vary, so it's best to check with local regulations or property management.
