What are my rights when changing jobs within a company?

Full question:

I would like to know my rights when changing a position from one department to another when it is with the same organization. I have officially quit one department and have formally accepted another position with anther department within the Hospital. There is no policy. My current director wants to hold me until they find a replacement. I would like to give two weeks notice. I think the Hospital will need to follow situations similar to mine and follow it as a guide.

Answer:

An employee's rights upon a departmental transfer within the same employer, if not covered by an employment contract, union collective bargaining agreement, or policy manual or handbook would generally be defined by the employer. A private employer has wide discretion in creating employment policies regarding notices and transfers, as long as they are not prevented by law and don't constitute illegal discrimination.
