Full question:
We are a wholesale supplier of sheet metal products to mechanical sub contractors who in turn sub contract to a general contractor. We do business in different counties in VA, MD, and WV. I have contacted each county we do business in as to how we should go about filing a lien against these contractors and each county tells me that I probably need to speak to an attorney. Is there a basic procedure and/or paperwork that we need to achieve this and if so what is it?

Answer:
You must follow the specific procedures for filing a construction lien in each state, as there is no universal process for all states. We are currently updating our construction lien forms, particularly for Virginia. Please check back for the updated forms. The forms for Maryland and West Virginia have already been updated.
