Full question:
I was sold a trip that included purchasing first class frequent flyer miles and one week at a time share. After giving our money, I later learned that it is considered an act of fraud to buy frequent flyer miles from an individual. This is something that I did not know previous to the agreeing to buy the trip and it was not disclosed then or now.I should tell you that we backed out of the trip for a different reason and tried to sell the trip but the owner of the miles would not agree to sell his miles and therefore we were not able to sell the trip. We lost about $500 in this deal that I wish to recoup if I have legal standing. Is the contract valid under these terms or do I have an actionable case to get my money returned?

Answer:
A contract is void if it involves fraud or has an illegal purpose. If you were misled into agreeing to the contract due to the seller's fraud, you may be able to rescind the contract. Since purchasing frequent flyer miles from an individual is considered illegal, the contract may not be enforceable in court. Therefore, you might have grounds to seek a refund of your $500.
